(A continuation in the'Doc'Carlton series) They're back again, for the third time around - the animal rescue team we met in DALLAS DOC and TEXAS DOC: healers 'Doc'Carlton, his unpredictable partner, Dr.Rich Vest, and indispensable medical staffers Tracy and Rachel. This time, they take on a second clinic and a new vet, 'perfectionist' Mathew Horton, who matches their passion and all-out commitment to every critter. In his conversational style, Doc gives us more irresistible, behind-the-scenes glimpses into his topsy-turvy life: There's the Border collie who thrives on hypnotizing sheep; a feline's midnight surgery in a home kitchen; the movie star who wants a 'makeover' for his pet pig; the garlic-wearing, globetrotting Chihuahuas who write postcards; two mules that become a baseball legend's family; and a wayward cat who has the only cure for a horse with 'psychosomatic' issues.… (more)

This Texas veterinarian has a way of telling down-to-earth stories that amuse me. He manages to work in some interesting facts about animals that I appreciate. Most of the stories are "feel good" stories and fairly short, so it is perfect for reading when you know you'll be interrupted at some point. While focused on animals, it also gives a glimpse into the rural life around Dallas.

You don't have to have read Carlton's other books to enjoy this one. It is recommended for people who love animals and is suited for young adults. ( )
