Comment vit-on le rejet d'une mère? Dans ce roman, Nothomb n'épargne pas les mères jalouses, méprisantes et négligeantes. Diane tente de naviguer ces eaux troubles en protégeant son cœur. Tous les personnages n'en feront pas autant. Un livre d'émotions pures qui se lit d'un trait, passionnant pour sa noirceur et sa délicatesse. ( )

Diane est une enfant mal aimée par sa mère qui l'ignore, pas de maltraitance physique mais pire l'ignorance, l'oubli de son existence. Enfant mature pour survivre, elle analyse très vite la situation et réussit à survivre dans son milieu familial.
Adulte, elle veut devenir cardiologue, s'occuper du coeur !
Un bon roman sur des sentiments parfois difficile à expliquer : la jalousie, la haine, le mépris, l'ignorance d'autrui, la manipulation.
Amélie Nothomb nous étonnera toujours par ses sujets. ( )
