Half of the novel reminded me a lot of the movie Me Before You. Kind of like Shadowhunters meets that movie. Here's my play-by-play. From the beginning of the novel, I was utterly confused. Crazy things were happening that were totally hook-worthy, but not a lot of explanation went on. Eventually the confusing part settled down, and I moved with the main character, Noah, into his own personal hell. He was bedridden with a caregiver, hence the Me Before You feel. But I was a bit turned off because Noah was grumpy and talked a lot about wearing adult diapers and sitting in his filth. But in the next breath, he's thinking about how seductive his caregiver's soul is and how she is so much temptation that he wants to rip her head off, yet she kind of turns him on in a human way as well, but he's pissed at the world, so he's going to be a dirty old man and stew in his filth. See what I mean?

But hang on. It gets better. His caregiver Caroline has a way of pulling Noah from his crap, so to speak. I started liking the interaction and chemistry between them. The only part that really confused me was part of Noah's "curse." I didn't understand how things changed for him at night. So a few things aren't explained very well, but the story pulled me along. The world is original and interesting. I'd love to read more about the brothers. Matt is my favorite character.

I actually liked the villain, Amon, too.

This novel is Reader Rated for ages 16 for moderate violence, some profanity, and sensuality. Sex is off page, but plenty of talk about sexual feelings. ( )
