History of Beauty by Umberto Eco (WiJiWiJi)

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (Alixtii)
Alixtii: Both books having writers getting meta about the nature of writing and reading as a protagonist goes through a process of reading very (and I mean very) many books. Both are written with wit and insight, although Eco's book is better.

As with most Umberto Eco books, the concept is fabulous but the writing is horrible. ( )

Another one I remember reading some years ago, without now recalling its details. ( )

Usually i love reading Eco but this is just to deep into Italian childhood lit that i am losing interest to finish it. ( )

I started this book and was distracted from it for some horrible reason. Cannot wait to finish it. Eco is brilliant.

A wonderful book again from Umberto Eco flawed, once again, by a weak and disappointing ending. It just seems, like Stephen King, he cannot take the time to write a decent ending that doesn't make the rest of the book seem less engaging. This book is not as dense and is more accessible than other Eco novels.

I found the numerous illustrations fascinating but this may distract some readers. ( )
