Pig the Pug returns in this fifth picture-book devoted to his (mis)adventures, once again making himself a nuisance with his bad behavior. This time the bone of contention is the question of who is the real star, when Pig and his dachshund brother Trevor go to the photographer's studio for a shoot. Although Pig attempts to steal the show, it is Trevor who catches the photographer's attention, leading our pug antihero to go to extreme measures to become the star again...

Like its predecessors, Pig the Star pairs an entertaining tale told in rhyme - "Pig was a pug / and I'm sorry to say, / he just LOVED attention. / He'd show off all day" - with bright, colorful illustrations done in acrylic. The result is an amusing read-aloud selection, one which offers a guide in how NOT to behave! I continue to be puzzled by the fact that the American publisher of this Australian picture-book series isn't bringing over the second title (Pig the Fibber), but is publishing all the others - surely it can't be because of the bad behavior of the canine hero, since that is the point of all the books? - but am glad to see this one making an appearance here. Recommended to all Pig the Pug fans, and to anyone looking for fun, humorous picture-books in rhyme. ( )
