Rebels in Hell series
  ritaer | Mar 19, 2020 |
Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Kleopatra, Machiavelli, and a bunch of other historical and legendary figures head out to search for a way out of Hell through its caves. Like the first volume, this book is full of politics, but rather than a series of short stories by several authors, it is handled solely by C.J. Cherryh and Janet Morris. Perhaps that is why it is a little more approachable. Much will still be beyond the casual reader, but much like Cherryh's Foreigner series, the political gaming of the various figures does not have to always be understood to be enjoyed. Characters like Machiavelli and Hatshepsut are working on so many levels, not all disclosed, that the reader could not possibly understand them all. Just know that nothing is at it seems and hang on for the ride. ( )
