What have you done today for which you have not expected a response? Don't we all go through life doing things that will, in the end, benefit ourselves? We are back-scratchers. We do things for someone so he or she will do something for us. In contrast, this book gives suggestions for shifting towards a truly selfless life of honoring God with our motivations.

Pastor and teacher Stirratt uses lots of anecdotes and biblical stories, which make it an enjoyable, yet convicting text. He teaches without lecturing or preaching, delving deeply into the nitty-gritty of every type of relationship. Chapters include a focus on marriage, parenting, reconciliation, and church fellowship. It is best for married couples but could be read and enjoyed by anyone. ( )
