Probably my favorite Sookie book so far. The clothes the author puts Sookie in continue to horrify and delight (she's 26 and un-ironically excited to wear a Christmas sweater with reindeer on it? Her dress has sleeves, but no shoulders? Is it possible this was written in 1992?), but it only makes the whole series more fun at this point. I'm especially glad she's on the outs with Bill in this one because he is BORING.

Another quick and diverting read. I have to say though, I'm enjoying the peripheral characters a lot more than Sookie and Bill. One can only take so much relationship angst. ;) I did really enjoy getting to 'meet' Alcide and spend more time with Bubba and Eric. Hoping that we get to see more of Pam in the coming books. Her interactions with Sookie are really a lot of fun. ( )

Sookie Stackhouse is drawn deeper into the machinations of vampiric politics and hidden agendas. Due to her own insecurities and desires she finds herself wide open, vulnerable and unable to do anything else other than their bidding. She takes what she can get while seeking to answer all the questions she has kept in her head and begins to wonder if it is better to be alive, dead, undead or subjugated by all three. ( )

The first two books did not excite me that much but the third had everything I'd expect a decent supernatural/urban fantasy novel to have. It was funny, exciting, mysterious and kept me hooked. Unlike the first two books I actually finished this one wanting more. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my middle child, Timothy Schulz, who told me flatly he wanted a book all to himself.
My Thanks to Lisa Weissenbuehler, Kerie I, Nickle, Marie La Dalle, and the incomparable Doris Ann Norris for their input on car trunks, great and small. My further thanks to Janet Davis, Irene, and Sonya Stocklin, also cybercitizens of DorotyL, for their information on bars, bouree ( a card game), and the parish governments of Louisiana. Joan Coffey was most gracious with supplying information about Jackson. the wonderful and obliging Jane Lee drove me patiently around Jackson for many hours, entering thoroughly into the spirit of finding the perfect location for a vampire bar.
First words
Bill was hunched over the computer when I let myself in his house.
