It's taken me the better part of 5 months to read this book, it really isn't the kind of thing you sit down and read in large chunks. I've been carrying it around reading a couple of letters per tube journey, for which it has worked perfectly. These letters cover 60 years and an amazing variety of topics. They give a fascinating insight into living in America during the twentieth century, looking at the lives of everyone - presidents, movie stars, imigrants, journalists, golfers and just the people next door. As my history is a bit shaky, it would have been nice sometimes to get a brief introduction explaining the context of the letters. It may have taken me forever to read, but it was always enjoyable.
