It only takes one word to show how much difference a little bit of kindness can make. Dude is the only word said throughout this book, but it speaks volumes to children everywhere. This is a must read for children of all ages, its message means something and it is funny that it has only one word. ( )

What attracted me to this book was Santat's use of colors because he always uses rainbow text to capture the reader's attention. Dude is a very simple book, with literally no words with the exception of "Dude" (and it's variations), 25 times. Therefore, it was extremely important that Santat create the true meaning of the book, and he does that very well. The story is about two friends, a beaver and a platypus. They are enjoying their day at the beach when they stumble upon a great white shark. Although no other words, besides "Dude", are ever muttered, Santat leads the reader through the story with vivid facial expressions and body language of the animals. This book was cute, and it was interesting to see how the author and the illustrator worked together to create a coherent story with little to no words. ( )

A picture book with a single word throughout the story- dude. The illustrations are colorful and fun, however it is up to the reader of the story to make the text fun and exciting. ( )

Two beach animals go surfing and encounter a shark. The text consists of a single, repeated word - "Dude!" - and it's up to whoever is reading the book aloud to give inflection and use the pictures for context.

A platypus and a beaver who love surfing encounter a shark -- with unexpected results. Using just the one word "dude" this almost wordless picture book shows how much gnarly fun the dudes have surfing together.
