Go west, young pioneer--your journey begins here! In this first leg of your trek on the Oregon Trail, you need to find your way to Chimney Rock--but not without unpredictable challenges ahead. This is the first installment of four books that will take you all the way to Oregon Territory--if you make the right choices. In book one of this exciting choose-your-own-trail series, it's 1850 and your first goal is to get your family, covered wagon full of supplies, and oxen to Chimney Rock on time. But hurry--you'll need to make it through the rugged mountains before winter snow hits. Plus, there are wild animals, natural disasters, unpredictable weather, fast-flowing rivers, strangers, and sickness that will be sure to stand between you and your destination!     Which path will get you safely across the prairie? With twenty-two possible endings, choose wrong and you'll never make it to Chimney Rock on time. Choose right and blaze a trail that gets you closer to Oregon City!… (more)

This reminded me so much of elementary school in the 80s, both the subject and the choose-your-own format. It's not great literature and although the story doesn't specify, the gender of the "you" is almost certainly male (which isn't a problem, per se, just a little narrow), but it's fun for what it is.

This is from the Level 5 Build Your Library booklist. ( )

If you've ever played any of the Oregon Trail games, you know what's inside this book. If you haven't, go get them, they're free and funny. There's at least two I know of, one's Halloween-themed and one's the normal one.

As for this book, it's really fun and a ride for sure.

You might make it, or you might not. ( )

With 20 different possible endings this title is a fun way to learn about the Oregon Trial. In the beginning of the book you are instructed to turn to the book to read some history. the history helps you make better choices while you are reading your adventure. I would have like to see the history in the beginning of the book. A fun series for 4th graders learning about the Oregon Trail. ( )
