One secret could bring down the government when the President's memorable affair becomes a nightmare he longs to forget in this page-turner from James Patterson that will keep you up reading all night long. Sally Grissom is a top Secret Service agent in charge of the Presidential Protection team. She knows that something is amiss when she's summoned to a private meeting with the President and his Chief of Staff without any witnesses. But she couldn't have predicted that she'd be forced to take on an investigation surrounding the mysterious disappearance of the First Lady -- with strict orders to keep it a secret. The First Lady's absence comes in the wake of the scandalous, public revelation of the president's affair, so at first it seems as though she is simply cutting off all contact as she recuperates at a horse farm in Virginia. What begins as an innocent respite quickly turns into a twisted case when the White House receives a ransom note along with the First Lady's finger.… (more)

This was definitely more like a James Patterson book. Moved along nicely with only one or two slow parts, which has not really been the norm for him lately. Yes the First Lady was fictional, but it was nice that they were given names as opposed to some stories that just refer to them as the President and First Lady. I loved how she was a strong woman with her own mind. I hope to see more of that in many books going forward. ( )

A light political thriller and a good collaboration, kudos to Brendan Dubois. I read [b:The Cornwalls Are Gone|42837487|The Cornwalls Are Gone|James Patterson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1550720566s/42837487.jpg|63082716] and I much prefer The First Lady between the two. There are a few unanswered parts but overall this was a fun and quick read. ( )

Sally Grissom, Special Agent in Charge, Presidential Protective Division. She heads the department that is responsible for protecting the President of the US. She is in the middle of a contentious divorce and is doing the single mom gig for her daughter. Life isn’t simple or easy at work or home. And it has just gotten worse.

It seems the President has been caught with his mistress in public. The head of the US who is up for a second term and is also married and has a good, clean image. Make that “had.” He now has to get damage control in place and it isn’t going to be easy, as it appears his wife has suddenly gone missing!

Parker Hoyt, the President’s Chief of Staff, has been with the President since the early days of his political career. Hoyt is the man behind the curtain who has the connections and pulls the strings to keep things looking good for the President’s image. Now he is faced with the complications of the missing First Lady.

He calls Sally Grissom to handle finding the First Lady, but to do it covertly with no publicity or leaks, even within the security departments that serve to protect the President. When a ransom note arrives at the White House, along with the tip of a finger, the heat really cranks up. Could this be a good distraction from the President’s indiscretion?

James Patterson and Brendan DuBois have written a tense, fast paced plot. Sally Grissom is a tough cookie who takes her job and her parenthood very seriously. Parker Hoyt is a force to be reckoned with. Strong personalities and a tense situation that may involve life and death make for a good read.

I like that the chapters are short and full of action. Even ifyou only have a short time you can still get a good dose of the plot and action, moving you further along in the book. ( )

I enjoyed this. The Chapters were short and it was tightly written. It kept me reading without boredom. I'm not sure how credible the plot was, but a suspension of belief is not a bad thing. Parker Hoyt was a nasty character, but not a very well rounded one. Only things is, I would love to know what happened at the Election!!! ( )

Sally Grissom leads the White House Secret Service force, so when the president is caught in an affair and the First Lady goes missing, Sally has to find a way to balance her work with her home life. However, when larger political plots begin, she finds herself in a web of lies that could cost her and the First Lady their lives. ( )
