There was no future, Caroline knew, in her love for Andrew. Not only was he married, but his wife loved and needed him-and Caroline had no intention of destroying her happiness. So she was thankful to get a job as companion to the young daughter of Don Esteban de Montejo, in far -off Mexico. But there Caroline found herself in a worse situation than the one she had just escaped.
