It was supposed to be a new beginning for Elaine Davis. Returning to her childhood home in North Yorkshire, she hopes to move on from a devastating past and rebuild her life with the help of her mother and children.Sometimes though, new beginnings in familiar surroundings can come with the stirrings of memories long forgotten. As Elaine's mind begins to unravel, discoveries of deceit and betrayal reveal themselves, and circumstances spiral beyond her control.Elaine must fight to hold on to her sanity; unless of course, she has already lost it?News and Reviews:'An absorbing, disturbing and kinetic thriller that balances a tight rope between a conventional whodunnit and a Gothic horror.' - Author Dean Mayes'In The Mother Of All Things, Mr. Blake melds mystery, crime, suspense, drama, and action in a story seeping with dark paranoid tension.' - Author E. Denise Billups What readers are saying:The Mother of All Things is a very well written book with complex and detailed characters, a plot that twists and turns enough to maintain interest all the way through.Elaine in particular is a character that readers grow to know, and yet feel like there is always something we don't know about her. This is a tricky thing to do, yet the author does a great job with it. (Rodney Strong)Extremely well written. Can not believe it's the Authors first book. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. It would make the most amazing film ... (Dena Parker)Have just finished reading The Mother of all Things. What a great book, I couldn't put it down, all the twists and turns were amazing. (A. D. Moore)I found this a roller coaster of a read. The climax of the story, out of the blue, was explosive veering more towards horror than thriller. The loose ends are then neatly tied up. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and I'm going to follow where this author goes next. This book demonstrates he can create believable characters, do suspense and mystery and also full-on action and horror. If he chooses the later I might have to read with one eye closed. (Diana Febry)There are crimes and mysteries to solve. As the body count rises, the reader is even more mystified as to who the perpetrator is. I suspected just about everyone. The characters are well drawn. The lead character took up residence in my head. I 'lived' the action through her.Gabriel Blake imagined a very well thought out plotline with twists and turns that kept the action alive and me on tenterhooks. There were definitely jaw dropping moments. An excellent novel that would translate well into a movie. (Julia Wilson)This journey of Elaine pulled me in. It proves an author's ability to describe with a detail psychological process of a human nature. What is real, what is not when a mind cannot really differentiate that? Sane or crazy? It is a deeply touching story, scary at times but wanting to know what will happen next, I kept reading. Excellent writing. (Joanna Marta Pilatowicz)For a debut novel the author did an excellent job. A dark and somewhat disturbing novel which keeps you guessing until the end. Even when you think you have it figured out, he surprises you again. The writing flows effortlessly, draws you in and I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. If you enjoy thrillers with a twist I recommend this book. (Bronwyn Kotze)… (more)

I won an e-copy of The Mother Of All Things, authored by Gabriel Blake, from the Member Giveaways on Librarything. What follows below is my honest review, freely given. I am thankful for the opportunity.

I rated this novel 5 stars.

I found myself waxing between feeling I knew what was happening, to second guessing myself; I often told my husband that the book was messing with me, keeping me adrift. The author would simultaneously be clear and elusive, while reading I would be hard pressed to fully understand the unease creeping up my neck. I loved this aspect of the novel to 11. One thing I knew to be true is that I despised Robert and Chloe! I had to take a short break from reading this, I had some ARC’s with release dates coming up that I needed to focus on; picking it back up I easily fell back into the story. After finishing the novel I could fully appreciate all the subtle pieces sown throughout. They came together in my mind right at the end, as I’m sure was intended; but it felt like a genuine sharing with the author, not an instance where you feel the author is possibly mocking you for not getting it sooner. I am once again being purposely vague in my review to avoid spoilers, which I feel could be easily done.

This book was a blast to read, the story was ever changing, I developed strong opinions and definitely picked sides with the characters, there was blood and guts, this is the full package here people. There is a second book, so the story is not over; I am very excited to see what happens next. ( )

If I could rate this book with more than 5 stars, I would do it. This story was an absolutely, off the charts, phenomenal read! It garnered all of my attention and held me completely rapt from the first page to the last. The writing was awesome, and the compelling storyline kept me guessing until the very end. The characters were so well developed and their emotions were so believable that I felt as if I knew them myself.

I literally couldn't put this book down. I began reading it and spent the entire day finishing it! I had to find out what the end of the story held for it's readers; and believe me, it was completely worth the wait! I won't go into details because I don't want to spoil a single aspect of this incredible story.
There were some great unexpected twists and turns in this book. I'm usually very good at figuring out secretive plotlines, but this one really had me going for a long while before I even had an inkling of what might happen.

I can't say enough to laud this incredible book. This is an absolute must, must read!
I'm already looking forward to the next book! ( )
