What's cool isn't just that Soule is able to give an expansive EU feel to the conclusion of his series, but that's he's also able to definitively end it. When we leave Vader by the end of this book, his descent into both despair and rebirth in the dark side is so dramatic that you understand how completely Anakin Skywalker has been broken and lost. I enjoyed all four volumes as I have been watching the Clone Wars series. ( )

Darth Vader seeks some time out, and the Emperor grants him the volcanic world of Mustafar, and sends him there with the helmet of an ancient Sith Lord, which still has some kind of consciousness. As usual with the Emperor's gifts, they are a double-edged sword. With the helmet's help, Darth Vader constructs a fortress of the Dark Side, which he uses to seek visions of the past and future. ( )
