This is unlike anything I've read before, and comes from a viewpoint seen far too seldom. Unapologetic in its confronting imagery, it also has passages of pure lyrical beauty. This is an important book for our times, an authentic voice giving life to uncomfortable truths. ( )

This is a brilliant, angry, political, and passionate horror novel. Like the best books, this one engaged my three spheres: mind, heart, and soul. It's a mosaic novel, a type that I don't particularly love. But, this is a mosaic novel done right.

I very much appreciated the author's prose style, which is Richard Matheson-esque, crisp, taut, and unadorned. Iglesias also peppers the text with Spanish, giving the tale verisimilitude and resonance.

The story concerns itself with several characters who are caught up in the violence and anger that exists along the U.S.-Mexico border, dealing with supernatural forces, bred from hatred and violence, promising bloody retribution.

Overall, an outstanding novel, one that deserves a wide readership, not only among horror fans. ( )
