"Here, Andiey Barnes tells the story of her family's Kwanzaa holiday. She explains its origins--it was created by Maulana Karenga, an African American professor at California State University at Long Beach--and describes the importance of the past and the future to the holiday.
"Kwanzaa was patterned after harvest festivals that still occur in several parts of Africa at the beginning of the New Year. It has seven letters, seven symbols, seven principles, and takes place over seven days and nights, starting on December 26. . ." Source: The book's dust jacket. A glossary and index is included.
