This is a romantic thriller with explicit scenes and horrifying content (death of a child). The suspense/pace is really strong (page-turner). The ending made me wonder what really happened, which I think is the point of the story. I wish there had been more depth to the characters (especially Jeremy). ( )

Colleen Hoover has taken over the best sellers list, and I had to read one of her books to determine the reason for all the commotion. The book Verity started strong. When Lowen, a mediocre author, first meets Jeremy at an accident scene, the story had my attention. However, when Jeremy hires Lowen to ghostwrite a book for his bedridden wife, Verity, and invites her to move into their house, the narrative becomes much less attractive. Lowen's reading of Verity's manuscripts and her discoveries in the household while she falls in love with Jeremy provide a plot that is not all that engaging. I don't think I'll read any more Colleen Hoover books.

It’s what you do when you’ve experienced the worst of the worst. You seek out people like you…people worse off than you…and you use them to make yourself feel better about the terrible things that have happened to you.
