A cute storybook for children. I felt that the message the book was trying to send was maybe a little confusing. I couldn't really tell exactly was the author was trying to say. The illustrations are beautiful. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Please see my review and a few teaching tips over on Reading Rumpus: https://www.readingrumpus.com/2019/05/princess-puffybottom-and-darryl-by.htmlHere's the start; 'Princess Puffybottom . . . and Darryl is a nice addition to the PK-1st classroom. The story is about the cat, Princess Puffybottom (every bit as stuffy as her name sounds) gaining a new member of the family, a pup named Darryl. At first glance this picture book seems a simple dog/cat tale, but the illustrations tells a different story. I would use this in either K or 1 for standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.K.7...." This book has bright, colorful adorable illustrations, a diva kitty with two mommies, and a cute puppy named Darryl, what more can you ask for? “Princess Puffybottom” is a book that I would recommend to everyone who loves animals and perfect for anyone who has children (and is great if you don’t), I don’t think you will be disappointed. This is a sweet book. I hope there is a sequel in the works, since the ending is left open for more.My niece read this book and said she loved it and wanted there to be more, hoped there would be more. She loved Princess Puffybottom and Darryl. I won this book from LibraryThing from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My niece and I give this book 5 stars. I felt like it was telling kids that it's okay to be spoiled, and that change is bad. It didn't feel as positive as it could have been. The language feels a bit advanced for preschool age kids, and having a character named Princess Puffybottom, and Darryl doesn't really jive together in a cohesive way either. I appreciated the subtlety of Princess Puffybottom having 2 female owners, and that they are people of color. These details don't add to the story, but the reflection of unique family structures in kids books is always a great thing. no reviews | add a review

Princess Puffybottom has the perfect life -- her subjects serve her delicious meals, clean up her "delicate matters" and wait on her hand and foot. Life is good ...until Darryl arrives. Princess Puffybottom thinks he's disgusting, horrid and a true animal. Though she tries everything in her power to banish him (including hypnosis, trickery and even sabotage), it looks like this puppy is here to stay. Can Princess P. and Darryl find a way to co-exist?-- No library descriptions found. |
