La breve età d'oro dell'Ungheria durò dal 1867 al 1914, durante il mezzo secolo della monarchia austro-ungarica. Anche se Budapest fu gravemente distrutta durante la seconda guerra mondiale e in seguito soffrì di quattro decenni di abbandono dell'era comunista, la città è ancora una meraviglia dell'architettura fin-de-siecle, e possiamo vedere e sentire la sua grandezza. Durante questi periodi, gli ebrei arrivarono completamente fuori dal ghetto e nella società e furono appassionatamente patriottici. C'erano banchieri e industriali ebrei, atleti vincitori olimpici e scienziati vincitori di premi Nobel, drammaturghi pluripremiati e romanzieri di fama internazionale.
