I expected it to be filled with funny and silly moments, which it was but each story just felt so short. Each story just felt random, and only a few connected together. I think the real problem was I didn't feel there was an overarching story in this. This isn't a bad thing really, but I guess I just wanted more. There are stories that really made me laugh however, and I did enjoy the manga. I think I will read the next volume to see if it continues this way or if it delves into a story I can follow. *A Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this for an honest and unbiased review* I have seen this manga on my Tumblr dashboard a few times here and there, and always pushed it back on my manga TBR pile but after seeing this on Netgalley I just knew I had to dive right on it and I have no regrets. “The Way of the Househusband” refreshing concept revolves around a former yakuza legend, ‘The Immortal Dragon’ who leaves behind his former lifestyle to become your everyday househusband. It was refreshing, unexpected, original and more comical than I anticipated so kudos to the author for this amazing gag comic! I know it’s only a matter of time before this is adapted to an anime, so that’s something else to look forward to. no reviews | add a review

I haven’t read manga for ages, but these volumes were a lot of fun. The chapters are short and funny, looking at various aspects of the house husband’s life from shonky salesmen to meeting acquaintances from his other life. I did feel that I raced through these (being used to novels and not having a lot of time to read) but I did try to slow down and appreciate the backgrounds and drawing, as well as practise my reading of the various signs etc in Japanese.
Volume 1 is a great introduction to the story, capitalising on the problems an ex-yakuza may face when trying to start a new life. He’s recognised by former enemies, idolised by a junior yakuza and saves the day multiple times while barely being aware of it. He also starts to realise that despite his cute aprons with dogs and cats, he might look a little scary to others…and it’s not just the sunglasses indoors...
