When Jesus saw the beautiful city of God, the dwelling-place of David and Solomon, the scene of so many types of Himself, the glorious Temple with its enormous pile of white stone rising into the air, its brazen gates and golden roof, where God had dwelt, where all the prophets had prophesied, where thousands of believers had worshipped; when He remembered how sinful they were; when He saw how they would, ere long, crucify Him, and despise and reject all His offers of mercy; when He saw the coming destruction of His people, and the eternal vengeance which was to follow, Jesus wept.
