Book Over Movie Yet Again

I find myself not sure what to say about this read. I like many readers on Amazon and Goodreads have watched the show and the movie and find that neither one pairs well with what I just finished. I love Stephen King so much I actually reread the book IT once a year around Halloween time. When you pick up this book, I know you are going to want to find out what is beyond The Mist and you get the spooky creepy factor well not sure if many will like that there is no clear description of the monster. What you do get which I love is how Mr. King reveals the monsters INSIDE the store as well as outside, and the psychology of fear and anger and the deadly combination of the two. The way the Mob mentality is depicted in this novella is very well done. The way King brings us right to the for front of fear and then piles on the death is pure perfection. Very well done. If you haven’t read this it is worth the couple hours it will take you to finish it. ( )

This was ok, but not spectacular. I liked the ambiguous ending, and it was interesting to see how people react, individually and as a group, under these weird circumstances. Ultimately, though, I think John Wyndham does a better job at this kind of story... ( )

I have mixed feelings about this book.

As always, King writes in a smooth and user-friendly fashion that makes for easy and page turning reading. He also has the ability to build suspense, which was evident in this work as well.

However, one gets the feeling that King was crafting just one more work to add to his list and presumably income. There was nothing particularly interesting about the work, with the exception of the dynamic involving the old woman who prophesied the coming apocalypse. Otherwise, the creatures were simplistic and the ending was disappointing at best or lazy at worst.

Worth a read if you are simply looking for something light that will not take much time or effort. ( )

Wow I loved this book. the creatures, the the setting, the way King shows human nature. I will be reading this again! ( )

I at least finished this King story. Perhaps I’ll try one more to solidify whether I’m for sure not a fan of his work. Especially if I choose another audiobook narrated by Will Patton (who is the best there is).

But this was only semi-creepy. And I hate these types of endings. ( )

This is what happened. On the night of the worst heat wave in northern New England history finally broke -- the night of July 19th -- the entire western Maine region eas lashed with the most vicious thunder storm I have ever seen.
