*I gave this book 4.75 for review*

This book was a joy to read. I was so invested in these characters in this read. I was fascinated by the world building so much. I also thought that that the three POV really expanded the world. I found this book to such a fast pace read. This book was so much fun. I had such a hard time predicting the plots and it was a great read. I thought the end had some many new elements but they really made me excited for book 2. I really loved the characters in this book and they made me so happy. I also really enjoyed the side characters so much and hope they get featured more in future books. such a good read. ( )

I really liked this book up u til the very end. Honetly it was such a great concept. It was super new to me but still managed to make me understand the new terms and concepts without feeling like i was stupid or like it was being over explained. But then within the last 50 pages everything went to shit. It got way bigger than the first half the story had prepared us for it to get, and it just became unbeieveable really quickly. To the point that i'm not even sure if i will pick up the next book in the series. Just doesn't quite seem worth it ... ( )

CW: Described dismembering of animals. Death of loved ones.

It took me a long time to get through this one. That isn't a good thing. I loved the premise but I wish the world was a bit more fleshed out for us as it felt a bit skeletal ... see what I did there?...sorry. *hangs head*

The love between Ailesse and Bastien felt a little immature and therefore I wasn't that interested in it. I also don't feel like I really understood Ailesse's mum that well as she seemed a bit all over the show. It makes it hard to enjoy a story when you don't have at least one character that you like, even a little bit. Luckily I did like the brother and the fated lover twist was interesting.

I enjoyed the action sequences as they were written well enough that I could visualise the scene. I feel invested enough to see how things turn out so will read the next one. ( )

Bone Criers have a sacred duty. They alone can keep the dead from preying on the living. But their power to ferry the spirits of the dead into goddess Elara’s Night Heavens or Tyrus’s Underworld comes from sacrifice. The gods demand a promise of dedication. And that promise comes at the cost of the Bone Criers’ one true love.

Ailesse has been prepared since birth to become the matriarch of the Bone Criers, a mysterious famille of women who use strengths drawn from animal bones to ferry dead souls. But first she must complete her rite of passage and kill the boy she’s also destined to love.

Bastien’s father was slain by a Bone Crier and he’s been seeking revenge ever since. Yet when he finally captures one, his vengeance will have to wait. Ailesse’s ritual has begun and now their fates are entwined—in life and in death.

Sabine has never had the stomach for the Bone Criers’ work. But when her best friend Ailesse is taken captive, Sabine will do whatever it takes to save her, even if it means defying their traditions—and their matriarch—to break the bond between Ailesse and Bastien. Before they all die.
