Fantasy. Fiction. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML:Molly Harper is back with the next wickedly funny, wildly enchanting Mystic Bayou novel!
Sonja Fong isn't afraid of a little chaos. As director of the League's research center in Mystic Bayou, a tiny town in Louisiana that's home to supernatural creatures and humans alike, she's responsible for making sure things run smoothly. It's not an easy task when her daily memos include lines like "new equipment is needed because the old equipment was destroyed by a temper tantrum involving dragonfire."
Her job puts her in the path of Dr. Will Carmody, a mysterious shifter who's returned to Mystic Bayou after a long absence only to find that he's now considered an outsider. To make matters worse, the rift ?? a tear in the fabric of the universe that is leaking supernatural energy into the bayou - is unraveling at an alarming rate. Now Sonja and Will must team up to fix the rift and save Mystic Bayou from certain disaster, all while their own romance is heating up. Can they have a future together while the whole world is falling apart?

Another fun book about the magical beings in Mystic Bayou. A new character is introduced, Dr. Will Camody, who comes to the Bayou to start a clinic. Sonja is tasked with helping set up the clinic. However, first impressions are not good. To top it off, Sonja discovers something is not right with the League's books and she just maybe in over her head.

Enjoyable, light book with a good plot and solid characters. Four stars for the book and five stars for the narrators. ( )

Selkies are a Girl's Best Friend
4 Stars

A significant improvement on the previous installment.

Sonia Fong, the preternaturally efficient office manager for the League in Mystic Bayou, is astounded at her attraction to sexy, Will Carmody, a physician who has returned to help the residents of his small hometown. Sonia and Will initially rub each other the wrong way as they allow their prejudices to get the better of them, but they have great chemistry and complement each other very well. The eventual conflict is rather contrived and glossed over quickly; nevertheless, their relatively angst-free relationship is satisfying overall

Although the mystery and culprit are quite obvious, the suspense plot is interesting, and there is a significant development in the ongoing arc focusing on the Rift in Mystic Bayou. It will be interesting to see where Harper takes this.

The secondary cast is wonderful as always and I adore the interactions between Zed and Dani, Bael and Jillian as well as the developments in their storylines. Will's brother, Jon, is also very intriguing and I look forward to his book.

All in all, the Mystic Bayou series is light and fun, and Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davies narration are delightful. ( )

I will lump all six books of the Mystic Bayou series into one review because they follow the same charming formula that Molly Harper tends to use. The similarities between the stories don’t harm them, as long as you go into each knowing exactly what you will get. There will be a meet-cute, followed by lots of sexual tension, a mystery solved together with the requisite found family, and happily ever after for our star couple. Throw in a dragon, a were-bear, selkies, a dryad, a witch, and a gnome, and you have quite the community. I enjoyed every minute of listening to the series. ( )

Yep. This one confirms the trend.
1. Each book goes deeper into some sort of conspiracy
2. They all end with our heroine in mortal danger because of the mentioned conspiracy.
I am a sucker for them, the romances are so wholesome. ( )

First words
Sonja Fong didn't need magical powers.
Quotations
Of course, if he did get hired, she could order him a shorter desk so he constantly whacked his knees when he sat down.
Not that she would do that to a coworker.
Again.
“That's a bear thing, you wouldn't understand,” Zed told him.
“You can't just go around doing weird shit and blame it on ‘being a bear',” Bael shot back. “We've talked about this.”
Did that mean she didn't consider what they did a date? He supposed that was fair, considering that it was dinner at home with his brother. But it did end in a kiss, which, thankfully, did not involve his brother.
