St. Michael’s Church was pretty amazing. All white on the inside which was different. There was an underground crypt and you could go up in the tower and get great views of the city. Thought it was funny that they had a toy Martin Luther, when he was the one who said we don’t need churches and priests, as far I know. ( )

I absolutely love the Descender series, and I really liked Volume 1 of Ascender too. It was bound to happen that I'd eventually come across a volume that wasn't as awesome as the rest, and this is it. The genre has taken a steep dive toward fantasy from scifi, which I'm not a huge fan of. This one also tried really hard to pluck at my heart strings, but it wasn't nearly as effective as it previously has been.

I still love the artwork and the world as well as the characters, though. ( )

I will fully admit to being a touch underwhelmed by the first volume of this Descender follow up series. The hard shift from SF to Fantasy threw me a bit. It also created a lot of work for Lemire and Nguyen to lay the foundations for this new universe, while also catching us up with the players from the last series, and introducing new ones.

But now that the first volume did all that work, this one simply hums along with that trademark Lemire/Nguyen brilliance. I enjoyed it immensely. ( )
