The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was surprisingly addictive. From the beginning I was left guessing and predicting. I spent the whole book trying to solve the mysteries right along side the characters. The premise of the book is that Avery inherited a multi-billion dollar fortune from a man she didn't know. She comes into a family who was fully expecting to inherit the fortune. The four grandsons were waiting to inherit and trained to solve puzzles from a young age. Letters left for each of them, including Avery, left clues that they must solve. Is she meant to inherit the money or is it simply a game? Why was she of all people chosen to inherit all of this money, property, foundations etc.? Seeing at there are additional books in the series, it is safe to say that these are quick and addictive reads! Kept me intrigued throughout.... Was a little slow at times An enjoyable rags to riches young adult story with lots of mystery. The obscene wealth and sense of entitlement is bewildering. I found this to be a fun read. Generally I liked this book and it was a nice light read in between heavy reads. It’s not super remarkable and is lowkey a worse version of the 39 clues but whatever, I had fun, and fun earns you some points. The Characters For me the characters felt a bit boring and the two love interests were so similar and flat. Both are super hot, super smart, good at everything, magnetic, etc. I really have no idea which areas they are different in. I didn’t even have an opinion of who she ended up with because they were so similar. My favorite character was Xander because he had the most depth and his motivations were not completely obvious from the very beginning. The Plot The thing that really made this a mediocre book was the mystery part of the plot. Most of the clues I figured out myself and were so basic. Also the big reveals, especially how Emily died, fell really flat. Like they were not nearly dramatic enough for what they were built up to be. Also there were some parts of the plot that were kind of ignored, like her school life. Overall I found the plot very one dimensional. The Writing Overall the writing style was very typical YA with the usual cliches. I kind of found it to be very lazy writing, but it is pretty standard for YA I think. Also if I have to read another “fax/fox” in place of actual swearing I will do something unspeakable (I’m serious). no reviews | add a review

I liked this book. I liked Avery. She is feisty. She is thrown into a game that she knows nothing about but she is up for the challenge. The four grandsons--Nash, Greyson, Jameson, and Alexander--have to decide what they think about Avery and if they'll help her. Secrets get revealed as they search for the clues. By the end of the game, they figure out why the boys' grandfather made it a puzzle and competition. The story sets up the next book in the series.
I have to get the next book. I want to know what happens next. (
