The paintings in this book are gorgeous, but the text isn't the best--the author sometimes uses vocabulary words beyond the complexity of the stories, and not particularly useful ones (bated breath? really?). Still, the book covers a nice selection of immigrant experiences. I agree with the previous reviewer--more of library book than a purchase, unless you really want the illustrations, which are the highlight of the book. ( )

A collection of fictional tales of the Chinese in the new world. I believe it is centered in Canada as opposed to North America. Short, fun little tales at about a 8-12 year level. Recommend as a library check out - not something I would purchase. ( )
