I first read the Redwall books years ago and I still enjoy them when I recently re-read them. I love the world building and the creativity with which these animals were anthropomorphized. The level of description is really well done and very detailed. So adventurous and so very entertaining. ( )

I enjoy this series - definitely read as many as I could get my hands on when I was a kid. I still like the stories these tell, but it sometimes gets a little ham-fisted with the moralistic elements and the drama. Still an easy and enjoyable read though! ( )

all his books are the same exact tale--it would be lame except for the lovingly detailed descriptions of the food, all vegetarian fare of course ( )

I used to read these books to my little brother. I remember we would both look forward to a new one coming out! I don’t remember much of The Long Patrol (or any of the books) in detail but I remember the excitement when mother brought it home. On reading it we both enjoyed getting an inside look at the Long Patrol and the badger lords. And who can resist loving the hares in Brian Jacques’s novels? Wonderful Characters!
Long Patrol was one of the books that he re-read on his own many times.

The Redwall books are brilliant, Jacques writes wonderful characters and engaging plots. They are the children’s books that adults will love to read to their children. ( )

Epigraph
Sometimes I sit here through the night,
Dreaming of those far-flung days.
I'll gaze into the fire's warm light,
As if into some sunlit haze.
And here they come, those comrades mine,
Laughing, happy, brave to see,
Untarnished by the dust of time,
Forever fresh in memory.
The way we marched, the feasts so grand,
I'll tell you of them all,
From Salamandastron's west strand,
And north up to Redwall.
Of high adventures each new dawn,
As side by side we stood in war,
This tale is told that you may learn,
Just what true friends are for.
The Ballad of Tammo
Dedication
This book is dedicated to the memory of a nine-year-old boy, Jimmy Casey---the bravest warrior of all who never gave up, and who will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
First words
Melting snowdrifts with grassy knolls poking through made a patchwork of the far east lands as winter surrendered its icy grip of the earth to oncoming spring.
