Although I did find it interesting, the writing was atrocious. Extremely choppy writing style, with inconsistent timelines and subjects. He could start writing about Jack Daniel at age 7, then mention some one sentence anecdote about Jack at age 42, then continue writing about Jack's life at age 20.

It is clear that there was little to no editing done. The chapter on the Civil War was probably the worst and most tedious chapter in the book. Two of the chapters (14 and 15) are copied from another author in their entirety.

So why 2 stars rather than 1? Well, as stated earlier, it is interesting at some points. It does have the desired effect of leaving one with a great respect for Jack Daniel as a person, and for the whiskey itself.

If the information in the book was more organized and presented better it would make a huge difference. But the writing as it stands is pretty terrible. ( )
