"When his lifelong friend Henry Fox is murdered, Detective Jake House learns that Henry led a life filled with secrets - including the origin of a hundred-ounce silver bar Henry recently sold to a local coin dealer. Rumors of Henry's sudden wealth set off a greedy rush among those closest to him, including his broke ex-wife and the silent partner in his business, as well s complete strangers - treasure hunters looking for a big score. As Jake close in on the truth about what Henry found and who it belonged to, the greedy become more desperate - and more violent - leading to a showdown that strips the facade from Henry's life and sores Jake to re-evaluate his definitions of friendship, family . . . and justice.

This story is superbly written. The emotions of Jake as he navigates the case while trying to leave his personal connections aside were tough to write, I'm sure. Typical for this author is the twists and turns that the plot takes keeps the reader enthralled and fixated on turning pages to get to the answer of who really did it. ( )
