A useful book in your collection of HEMA related materials, but not one for beginners. The codex is originally just a few pictures. What they've done with this book is put those pictures in their historical context related to other materials from the same time period, particularly Paulus Hector Mair's collection of works. As such, each picture is accompanied by multiple text translations from these other books to help describe the techniques depicted, but the original codex had very little of it's own text. So overall the codex serves to fit in with a larger body of work and should be treated as such. However, the work in putting this together and showing how it relates to the other materials of the time period was exceptionally done. ( )
