A long serving Scottish journalists puts together tit bits from his life. A rehashing of things he must have written many times over. But nevertheless has some interest. Especially as it was published in the early 1970s when he was already semi retired. He rants against long haired pop singers and the awfulness of the Wednesday Play on the BBC. Unsurprisingly he spent most of his career with the Scottish Daily Express. ( )

I very much enjoyed this book. It covers a lot of territory, from exploring the life his father led as a child on North Uist (born about 1876) to his own childhood in Southend on the Mull of Kintyre, to stories of how the War affected his family, his work for the BBC, and thoughts on the writers life. An introspective, playful, interesting, and principled man. Very pleased I stumbled across the book. ( )
