After the first, I could have gone either way, but this had everything I felt the first was lacking. Plenty of character-driven story archs for those of us who like such things, without sacrificing the action so many love. Can't wait to see what's in store in book three! Definitely give this series a shot. You won't be disappointed! This is an amazing read. I really love this series. The worldbuilding is great, some actions surprise me even though those actions are still logical from the character's point of view. The whole magic system is amazing and I really love the characters. They are showing growth and emotion and make some good and some bad decisions. They feel real. This world feels real and I am gonna stop writing and move on in book 3. The sequel in the Lightbringer series carries on the adventure of Gavin(?) and Kip as the world gets closer to war. While I did enjoy this book more then the first (maybe due to listening as audiobook instead), I still wouldn't recommend it. There are pointless chapters, characters that should have had more time focused on them, characters that should have not been in the book at all, way too long explanations on things that are tedious, not enough explanation on the world building, and too much telling instead of showing. The audiobook does make it much more entertaining though. no reviews | add a review

UPDATE 5/28/14: I must have been in a bad mood the 1st time that I read this book. Or maybe I was pissed at yet another cliffhanger book. I won't take back my review from the 1st round but I will add that at the end of the book this time, I let out an 'f' bomb. You know "This book was ------ great!"?
Yeah, that.
(9/14/12)I'm not sure I'm happy with this one. IMO, there wasn't enough development although a lot of stuff happened. I feel like either it should have ended sooner or been extended a few more chapters. It just stopped.
This is not to say that I wasn't glued to this book enjoying every minute. It just made me wish I could wait to read the entire series all at once.
This is probably the most tepid review for a 4-star book that I've ever done so I guess I'll stop here. ( )
