It took me quite some time to figure out whether this book was a work of fiction or non-fiction, and it wasn't until I reached the photos in the middle that I was able to say with any confidence that it was non-fiction. Overall the writing was rather dry, and although it was interesting to read about a profession that I knew little of, it did not seem to be written for a civilian audience. There were a staggering number of acronyms and vernacular that I struggled to place contextually, as well as far too much time detailing the weapons used - unfortunately a majority of the weapons descriptions meant very little to me because of all of the technical jargon. By the end of the book, I couldn't quite place what the purpose in writing this was - it was certainly autobiographical, however there seemed to be no common thread linking the writing, and no higher message or motive other than sharing some fun stories about the clients the author had guarded. If that is the case, it perhaps would have been better written as a collection of short stories? ( )This review was written for LibraryThing Member Giveaways. I quite enjoyed this book; parts of it were dry and other parts were really engaging, like most books. It could be improved by an editor’s eye. I wasn’t quite sure from the outset if this was a fiction or non-fiction book; after I’d read a couple of chapters, it seemed much more likely to be non-fiction. Overall, it is an interesting book with unique insights into the bodyguard industry. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. no reviews | add a review
