4.5 stars.

This is the kind of book I would have loved if I was young boy. It's also the kind of book that I can love if I am nearing being called an old man.

Cole is searching for Mira's sister and her power. Brandon Mull weaves together the story about Cole, a boy from earth and going to the Five Kingdoms, trying to find a way back home while helping his friends Jace, Twitch, and Mira. Mira is a royal princess whose power to shape has been stolen then lost, then regained. Now in this book she must find her sister Hope and Hope's power, retrieve it, and hand it back to Hope. They find that the power is residing in the Rogue Knight, a swordsman who is unknown but is conquering many cities. Meanwhile, a monster named Morgassa is terrorizing towns and villages. They must defeat her and the Rogue Knight.
I just love this story because it,s a mix of fiction and fun, action and plot twists. Brandon Mull did an incredible job writing this book. How he manages to connect all of this on paper AND in his head is a total mystery to me. He makes up incredible stories and expresses himself in vivid detail. ( )
