Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway to die for in this chilling locked-room thriller by New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger. What could be more restful, more restorative, than a weekend getaway with family and friends? An isolated luxury cabin in the woods, complete with spectacular views, a hot tub and a personal chef. Hannah's loving and generous tech-mogul brother found the listing online. The reviews are stellar. It's his birthday gift to Hannah and includes their spouses and another couple. The six friends need this trip with good food, good company and lots of R & R, far from the chatter and pressures of modern life. But the dreamy weekend is about to turn into a nightmare. A deadly storm is brewing. The rental host seems just a little too present. The personal chef reveals that their beautiful house has a spine-tingling history. And the friends have their own complicated past, with secrets that run blood deep. How well does Hannah know her brother, her own husband? Can she trust her best friend? And who is the new boyfriend, crashing their party? Meanwhile, someone is determined to ruin the weekend, looking to exact a payback for deeds long buried. Who is the stranger among them?… (more)

The number of key characters in this meant there was quite a lot of lead up. It all played its part in explaining who was who, and why they acted they way they did, but it felt a bit overwhelming at times. That said, the characters were easily differentiated from each other and the multiple threads of information not too difficult to hang on to. Complicated relationships, secrets, and shared histories are the backbone of this getaway gone (very) wrong. ( )

What a cliff hanger! Hannah and Bruce, with their new baby, live a quiet life and work hard. Hannah's brother, Mako, decides to treat them to an extravagant vacation in a secluded cabin in the woods. As another couple join Hannah, Bruce, Mako and his wife at the cabin, you begin to find out there are some cracks in relationships. There's a hint at the beginning of a DNA mystery but how that ties in was very slow going. In addition to the haunting activities in the cabin, there's a second storyline involving a person named Henry. While full of character and suspenseful, I felt there was a bit too much going on. I got tired of the multiple POV's. Overall it was a fun read, although a bit convoluted. NOT my favorite from this author:-( ( )

Book was good, not great. I wanted to keep reading because I was trying to figure out how everyone was connected. You only found out at the very end and the ending wasn't good. ( )

A family torn apart by secrets. An outsider intent on stalking them, but someone else is watching this family too. With so many hidden enemies this family won’t know what hit them.

Three couples head deep into the woods for a luxury weekend trip. But this weekend won’t be one of relaxation and partying like they thought it would be. The cabin hides a dark past - and the guests there well, they can’t hide from their past either.

A locked-room thriller with suspense so palpable you’d think you were there yourself. I quite enjoyed this book. A few spots got a little boring which is the only reason it’s not a 5 star. ( )
