An enchanting Indian children's easy reader with interesting illustrations and playful storytelling in the form of a fable. My toddler enjoyed it. Also includes a cast of indigenous animals to the Western Ghats that we both loved. A nice intro to another locality, it definitely inspires further exploration.

What a cute little book. The pictures are whimsical, the rhyming is creative, and it has a couple of educational elements to it. One, teaching the reader about lesser-known species of animals, and two, illustrating the feeling of wanting to do something on your own even if you aren't ready, a struggle that most families grapple with. I really enjoyed the book and the only reason I wouldn't give it five stars is that occasionally it doesn't flow (rhyme-wise) as well as I'd like. Definitely pick up your copy though, as it is sure to become one of your favorite rhyming books. ( )

Animal fun swings high as a cute, little bear tries to prove himself independent and runs into more than a couple surprises on the way.

Gugulu has decided that it's time for him to head to school on his own...without his parents. After all, he's big, now, and doesn't need the help. All runs well enough until he comes to the river.

This is a cute tale about a sweet bear, and his desire to 'grow up'. Young readers/listeners will identify with his desire to prove that he can do some things on his own, even if his parents don't think he's ready. While some moments run smoothly, troubles do come, and the meeting with the parents is heart-warming as well as offers a sense of security and safety.

The illustrations are bright and bring across and animals with a sense of joy and energy. They are easy to identify, which is a must, since this book also introduces young readers to animals, they may not have run across before. While Gugulu has his adventures, he meets other animals along the way...many of them. At the end of the book, each one is again illustrated and shortly explained, so readers learn more about them.

This is a book written in rhyme, which flows well for the most part. There are also three word sounds or actions tossed in, which listeners can repeat and 'read' along with. I received a complimentary copy and found this a cute way to mix animal knowledge with a sweet tale. ( )

Gugulu is a rambunctious sloth bear who wants to go to school on his own. When his parents refuse, he runs off anyway, and on his way, he encounters a collection of both friendly and dangerous animals and gets himself into one adventure after another.

Gugulu The Little Bear Dares is an adorable book that teaches a lesson about listening to your parents while introducing readers to a group of unique animals that don’t usually appear in books. The sing-song rhyme of the text is catchy and energetic, and the illustrations are cute and colorful. I would recommend it to any reader who needs a reminder that parents impose rules to keep you safe and that it’s okay to have fun but to get your parents’ permission first. ( )

Young sloth bear Gugulu goes against his parents and tries to head to school on his own. But when he’s faced with the dangers of the Indian forest, can he courageously find his way home? Gugulu embarks on an unexpected adventure — and learns an important lesson — in this adorably illustrated picture book!

This story serves as a good lesson to show them that it is better to stay with their parents until it is safe. I think this is a lovely story accompanied by beautiful illustrations by Akansha Krishnan.
Gugulu’s daring nature will engage young readers and make them curious about just what he might do next.
