( ) Olivia has just been released from prison for a crime she didn't commit. She now just wants to build her life back up and to see her daughter and clear her name. This is the third book by the author which I have read but enjoyed the least. I just went in blind but the story wasn't what I was expecting. This book is another typical thrillerland story. The book is snappy and a quick read. It has a host of shady characters all of which are really not very nice. I think has Smithy is my favourite character out of all of them. The twists do keep coming and the story did hold my interest. My favourite part was the heist as one character called it. This I fun but did think it worked out quite to plan very easily. Not my favourite by the author but I would read more in the future. I read a lot of thrillers, and I especially enjoy domestic thrillers. This is one of the better ones from this year, partly because of protagonist Olivia, who has recently served five years for a crime she didn't commit. She's out, and she's certainly not the typical mildly frustrated suburban mom eyeing the neighbor for gossip and/or sex that we see in a lot of domestic thrillers (and I enjoy a glossy thriller of the elite behaving badly so much, one of the best being One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose). This one is grittier, but also holds all of the elements that I enjoy in a DT: a circle of friends, a smart, articulate protagonist, a takedown of toxic masculinity, and lots of deceit. Kath is a fabulous character, and I really, really applaud when a woman centers friendship in any book. This was not available in hoopla or on any of my Libby accounts, so I listened on Scribd. Five years ago, Olivia Sutherland was wrongfully convicted of plotting to murder. Now she's finally free, Olivia has three goals. Repair her relationship with her daughter. Clear her name. And bring down her husband — the man who framed her. Just how far is she willing to go to get what she wants? And how far will her husband go to stop her? Because his lies run deeper than Olivia could ever have imagined — and this time it’s not her freedom that’s in jeopardy, but her life. No library descriptions found. |
