Only One You By…Linda Kranz

In my opinion, this is a great book. This book talks about the lessons parents share with their kids. The author emphasized the big idea of individuality and the respect that parents deserve. I liked how the author showed how each individual can be unique and have the power to make their own decisions. I also really liked how the author engaged the readers in a way that taught the importance of acceptance and friendships, regardless of physical differences. I found this book to be inspiring for readers and helped teach them how to build confidence. I liked how Kranz talked about the idea that sometimes people need to stand out, while other times they need to fit in. The message conveyed was very special and meaningful.
The author included beautiful, colorful, and bright illustrations as well as inspirational quotes in the front and back of the book. This book addresses a deep love between parents and their child. Adri’s mama and papa provide their son with powerful advice and share how he can make the world a better place. I think his parents do a fantastic job inspiring him to explore the sea of life. Kranz created lively characters that young readers would be able to make meaningful connections with. Also, I loved the ending when Adri’s mama kissed him on the top of his head and said, “There’s only one you in this great big world, make it a better place.” This young boy’s parents support him in a way that encourages him to go on an adventure around the world. In addition, I liked how the language was concise and entertaining for individuals of all ages.

This book follows the story of a mama and papa "rockfish," who are giving their son Adri lessons on life while swimming around in the deep blue sea. This is a good book because the illustrations show that each "rockfish" is different from one another, it gives them animation and voices, and it applies to real fish, but they are painted rocks that are "fish" in the story.
Illustrations: Rock painting, watercolor and acrylic paintings (what it looks like)
Genre: Fantasy
Age Appropriateness: Primary
