This is another book written by Eileen Spinelli in rhyming form. This book asks the question:"Do YOU wear a hat? throughout the book. It talks about the different types of hats that people may wear, such as: sun hats, big hats, small hats, tall hats, etc. Spinelli also includes in the story a few people from history who may have worn hats. Some of these people include: Abraham Lincoln, Daniel Boone, and Walt Whitman. I found it interesting that the author included a description of these people on the first page. It gives kids a little information about the people so they have an idea of who they are when they are mentioned in the book.
This author, in the books that I have read by her, tends to use the same style in her writing. I like when an author is being consistent in his/her style. It shows how they are connecting what they are writing in one book to another book. This book's style is easy for younger kids to understand because some of the words sound the same and they may have an easier time following along with the story. ( )

Do You Have a Hat, is about many different notorious people who have an association with hats. Each character in the book has a use for their hat. I think children will enjoy this book because they are learning something new from each character but it is also entertaining through the illustrations. ( )

A fun and unique way to introduce historical figures to children. Spinelli's use of rhyming makes this a fun read that will easily roll off of your tongue. ( )
