1980 combined with Greek mythology and big bands = Xanadu. I enjoyed this movie, primarily for Olivia Newton-John's singing and Gene Kelly's dancing. The story was pleasant enough, but nothing memorable. The costumes and styles ... did I really survive the 1980s without my sense of fashion permanently impaired?

As always Olivia Newton-John shines vocally. She even dances well enough that her scenes with Gene Kelly reflect the "big band/Hollywood musical" vibe. Gene Kelly still has all his easy grace and I adored his dance scenes.

It is a nice little love story with good music. If you want a nostalgic stroll back to 1980 and you like Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John, you should give the movie a try. ( )
