I read it dozens of times throughout my childhood & adolescence. If you know a child into books about fantasy & adventure (like Tolkien), alienation (Catcher in the Rye or The Bell Jar), and/or imaginatively updated fairy tales, think about getting him/her this book. It's lovely, beautifully conceived & well written. It's been years since I've read it so I'm not sure how, as an adult, I'd feel about the domestic violence component (embedded in the original fairy tale). It might be a good way to talk about this issue with kids, as well as a good way to talk about divorce, absent parents. I could go on & on. If you see it, grab it! ( ) no reviews | add a review
