So, I read most of this while I had the stomach flu, so that might influence me. At first I liked how much information we were learning about the victim...a police officer could just go through the victim's house and gather clues. But then it became too much information, and the case took on all sorts of global issues. Not a bad thing, but not what I had signed up for. Various military and police units, as well as intelligence agencies got involved, and we learned much about the protocol of going between groups. Oh, and we learned the denouments of many of the previous books in the series...so, don't start with this one. Lovely descriptions of the Perigord, and Bruno's circle of friends is fun to read about. Good food descriptions, but kind of comical how Bruno whips up fabulous meals as he waits for military operations to commence. ( )

A little fluffier than some of the others in this series. However, the portrait of semi-rural French life is still wonderful, as are the meals. ( )

Surrounded by some of his circle of friends, Bruno witnesses the brutal attack of a local guy playing the hero of a middle ages reenactment. Called in to play an active role in the situation, Bruno discovers that all is not as it seems, and meanwhile is charged with protective a gathering of extremely wealthy international visitors staying at a chateau. Once again Bruno becomes involved with a matter of national security when a man appears to be stabbed at a re-enactment. The man in question works in intelligence. Using routine police techniques, he realizes something is amiss and the man was likely whisked away, but for what reason and where? Bruno is placed in charge of guarding the high tech visitors who came for a meeting with the man as he, the military force who helped him in a previous installment, and the other French intelligence and security teams sort out where the real threat is. On the personal front, some of Bruno's friends try to intervene on Florence's behalf. Isabel was mostly absent from this installment. ( )

Very up to date story with Chinese covering Taiwanese semiconductor plants and Russia's plans to invade Ukraine. ( )
