Fiction. Literature. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

The scorching new thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Girl on the Train.

â??A Slow Fire Burning twists and turns like a great thriller should, but it's also deep, intelligent and intensely human.â?ť â?? Lee Child

â??Only a clairvoyant could anticipate the bookâ??s endingâ?ť â?? New York Times

With the same propulsion that captivated millions of readers worldwide in The Girl on the Train and Into the Water, Paula Hawkins unfurls a gripping, twisting story of deceit, murder, and revenge.

When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victimâ??s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are â?? for different reasons â?? simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them. When it comes to revenge, even good people might be capable of terrible deeds. How far might any one of them go to find peace? How long can secrets smolder before they explode into flame?

A young man has been murdered on his houseboat. A troubled girl, Laura, is the likely culprit.

The cast of characters including an author, a grieving mother, an old neighbour, a houseboat dweller, didn’t particularly rivet me, but I did think the feckless young Laura, always landing trouble on her head, was particularly well drawn. ( )

Audiobook version. This was an ok book. I literally had nothing else to read, so I stuck with it longer than I normally would have.

It was slow. Really slow. I'd say the last â…“ of the book is where the author starts to make things happen. And then it seemed like *too mych* happened -- the pacing was strange.

The timeline was annoying and honestly could have been eliminated completely. It was odd all the way through. ( )

This was a well woven thriller but probably because I was listening and their were a lot of characters interwoven I just didn't love it. Lots of dispicable people not too many lovable. ( )

A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins is a fast paced whodunnit mystery thriller. I had high hopes with this book as the author's previous books were bestsellers. The plot is nice and the mystery hangs in the air while reading it. The characters are good, each having an unique identity. It was fun reading their past life and motives for murder. But after reading half the book, the plot became totally predictable. And the most important thing is that the plot missed to answer so many questions. I was literally dying to get answers for those. Although the plot is thrilling and engages the reader throughout, but I felt that the characters had more to say. I would only give 3 stars to the book. ( )

It took a minute for me to connect with the characters in this novel. Glad I did.
Pleased that the plot ran deeper than I expected. Novel is about a small wealthy but dysfunctional family, and their neighbors. Lots of twists and turns.

I like the fact that A Slow Fire Burning is very different than Hawkins; A Girl on the Train. I don't mind that many authors write formulaic stories but I prefer that each novel portray something different. This one delivers.

Laura and Irene are wonderful characters.

Good read.
