This is a thoroughly enjoyable book. One of my favorite children’s authors, Cynthia Rylant always understands our pets, best. Mark Teague, is becoming one of my favorite Illustrators, too. His style is best known in the “How Do Dinosaurs?” series with Jane Yolen, another favorite of mine. ( )

It was about a dog named Gracie. She liked the quite of her house and how she kept to herself. One day the painters came and were very loud. She didn't like that and because her excessive barking she had to go outside. Gracie decided to go on a walk and ended up running away. Everyone in town chased her trying to get her to bring her home. Eventually, Gracie went home and the painters didn't come back.

Gracie, the smaller dog, was put outside because she kept barking at the painters, whom she did not like. Gracie noticed that the gate was open, so she decided to go on a walk by herself. Once her family, the painters, the neighbors, and the paperboy noticed she was gone, then began the great gracie chase. They chased her all through town until they couldn't chase her anymore, and she eventually walked all the way back home all by herself. The character in this book, a dog named Gracie, likes the house to be quiet. Painters come over and start making a lot of noise, and Gracie doesn't like it. So the dog runs away, and the entire community chases after the dog until she comes home. ( )
