Remedios para la vida reúne treinta y cinco de las recomendaciones más incisivas concebidas por Petrarca en su De remediis utriusque fortunæ—escrito entre 1354 y 1366—para el escarmiento de los prósperos y el consuelo de los desdichados. En ellas, las principales pasiones del alma entablan un diálogo con la razón sobre el fruto, bueno o malo, de los diversos aspectos de la vida: los atributos del cuerpo y el alma, las distracciones, la educación, el arte, los parientes, los amigos, el poder, la guerra, la posición social, la salud, el dinero, el amor y la muerte, entre muchos otros. Una selecta summa moral que pone las armas de la filosofía al servicio del ser humano.
