Very cute story that serves as a good introduction to some basic (if simplified) scientific principles. The rhyming flows well, the text is clear and pitched at the right level for its audience, and the illustrations are fun, dynamic, and happily diverse in representation. Also, it’s baseball! My main quibble is that the title’s a bit wordy, but I guess “Matter Up” is too bad a pun. :) ( )

What a fun book! Excellent for STEM, and also for ESL
I definitely have the sense that Catherine Ciocchi is a writer who knows and loves her audience, and remembers what it's like to be a child: her clever language hits just the right diction, just the right tone, and is never 'teachy'. Using baseball to help make abstract physics concrete, she is clear and committed to providing bright new ways of leading children to a love of science. The team of Chantelle and Burgen Thorne, inspired by Ciocchi's lively rhymes, have matched them with colorful, dynamic illustrations to make Science, Matter and the Baseball Park a book that will be useful for both group and individual reading, celebrating both scientific concepts and good language formation.

This book is a good introuction of matter and a way to teach the concept to youngsters. The book also includes the excitement of attending a baseball game. Good combination of topics.
