Avatopolgy is a project by artist Frank WANG Yefeng that intends to materialize non-binary relations through the digital milieux by forming an actor-network of diverse communities. It collaborates with digital nomads based on the internet marketplaces to commission a pool of the artist's digital self-portraits from creators in Estonia, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. Each "service" is paid for by the artist without providing a fixed context besides one photo, resulting in an array of digital avatars derived from a single source but full of unpredictable discrepancies, as well as infused with each creator's own subjectivity, locality, and personal narratives from our online communications.This publication was created with the support of the Asia Art Archive in America's inaugural Zine Residency.… (more)
