Biscuit has found his way into my library multiple times, despite the fact that his stories are not as interesting to me as others of the same reading level. Two reasons account for this: one, the illustrations are undeniably adorable, and two, there is always a Biscuit book for every holiday. I like having books for special occasions, I have young girls who still need easy reading levels, and Biscuit lift the flaps are the simple solution. Also, my girls like puppies. This is his Christmas lift-the-flap story, and is a simple tale about Biscuit and his owner decorating the house on Christmas Eve. Biscuit manages to wreak a small bit of chaos, but it is always cute, and simply brings laughs from his little girl. They decorate the tree, show more make Christmas presents, listen to carolers, bake Christmas cookies (and a Christmas dog bone), hang the stockings, and finally fall into a delighted nap on the couch. The story presents an idyllic family holiday scene, even if I find it impossible to believe that they could accomplish all of those activities in one night. The story is told in simple sentences, suited for emergent readers and the youngest of listeners, and if the text is basic, it really is just serving as a vehicle for the illustrations, anyway. A lot of sweet pictures, a cozy home with a traditional Christmas: these are the draws for this book, and make it a good choice for young readers during the holiday season. show less
